26th November – 6th December
The photographs in this exhibition are from a selection of four different styles, which form part of Pirasteh's unique vision. Her landscapes explore spaces without boundaries. In the series 'God Created Man and Woman' Pirasteh re-creates breathtaking atmospheres. Solitude and loneliness abound here.
The trauma of recent conflicts in the Middle East has profoundly affected the way Pirasteh views the world around her, like a shadow following her around everywhere she went. Although these images are not documentary of the actual event, the dramatic monochrome prints represent her subjective portrayal of destruction, the loss of homes and of one's homeland. It symbolizes her personal response and interpretation of what remains after an event of this scale. One of the last pictures in this series “Is this the Road to Peace?” has been given an archival treatment to reflect the timeless theme. The last one, “Hope” represents a sense of optimism, that reality is here but there is hope for the future.
As well as photographs she has applied paint, collage, and other media to create the most unusual images. In her most recent images, a departure from previous works, everyday objects are superimposed and manipulated beyond recognition, colours are louder and patterns more vibrant than ever.
